Welcome to 2024!

Where do I begin? It’s been almost four years since my last blog entry and so much has happened in the meantime. For a host of reasons, my webpage has fallen off the radar and gone fallow, and I’m pleased to say that I’ve been able to rid the site of any malware that had infected it and am now able to reestablish the website as my home for communication about my activities and where you can ask me questions or seek out my music.

As many of you know, in August 2021 I accepted the position of Chair of the Department of Music at Kansas Wesleyan University and moved back to Kansas. Alicia and I relocated to Salina and began the process of reconnecting with old friends and colleagues and making new ones. Things began swimmingly for me at KWU and it looked like I had found a permanent academic home and could begin the process of reshaping that department with my vision of “21st Century Musicianship.” Unfortunately, things just didn’t work out for me here, and I resigned my position in May 2023.

Since then, I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching, thinking, writing, and working on composition. I’m not sure that the next step will be for me professionally, but am looking forward to exciting new opportunities. In the meantime, I’ve been working on composing digital music with a Digital Audio Workstation. In 2022, clarinetist Heather Gering premiered a piece of mine for bass clarinet and fixed media called Chant. Since then, I’ve been experimenting with the capabilities of fully digital music and should have some things to share with you soon.

As always, I want to thank you for taking the time to read this blog. I am grateful for your thoughts and positive support and can’t wait to share with you what my next adventure will be. Looking forward to a great 2024!
